Syed Mohammad Shah is the founder and Principal Solicitor of Shah & Co Lawyers. He brings experience across prosecution, criminal defence and community legal practice, together with a strong commitment to careful preparation, clear advice and responsive representation.

Before establishing Shah & Co Lawyers, Syed worked as a Senior Federal Prosecutor with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. In that role, he handled serious and complex Commonwealth criminal matters, reviewed substantial volumes of evidence and worked closely with experienced barristers.

His experience on the prosecution side gives him a clear understanding of how prosecutors assess evidence, identify the key issues in a case and decide how a matter should proceed. It also allows him to identify risks early, test the strength of a case and prepare a focused legal strategy. Syed brings that perspective, together with careful analysis and close attention to detail, to the matters he handles for his clients.

Earlier in his career, Syed worked as a criminal defence solicitor with the Aboriginal Legal Service in metropolitan and regional New South Wales, including the remote town of Bourke. Appearing regularly in a demanding regional court environment gave him valuable experience representing Aboriginal clients and people from a wide range of cultural, social and personal backgrounds.

These experiences have shaped Syed's practical, respectful and client-focused approach. He understands that legal issues can affect a person's family, finances, future and peace of mind. He takes the time to listen, explain the law clearly and provide advice tailored to each client's circumstances and objectives.

Syed assists clients with criminal law, conveyancing, civil litigation, immigration, and wills and estate planning. He brings the same level of care, preparation and commitment to every matter, regardless of its size or complexity.

As Principal Solicitor, Syed works directly with his clients and remains personally involved throughout their matter. His focus is on providing honest advice, practical solutions and strong representation while making the legal process as clear and manageable as possible.

Syed also speaks Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi, allowing him to communicate directly with clients from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Where a client speaks another language, an interpreter can be arranged to ensure they clearly understand their legal options and the progress of their matter.
