Syed Mohammad Shah is the founder and Principal Solicitor of Shah & Co Lawyers. He assists individuals, families and businesses with criminal matters, property and conveyancing, civil and commercial disputes, immigration, wills and estate planning.

Syed established Shah & Co Lawyers to provide clients with legal advice that is clear, practical and carefully considered. He recognises that legal issues often have wider personal and financial consequences. They can affect a person’s family, finances, business, reputation and future. His approach is therefore focused not only on the immediate legal issue, but also on achieving an outcome that reflects each client’s broader circumstances and objectives.

Prior to establishing the firm, Syed held a range of legal roles, most recently working as a Senior Federal Prosecutor with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.

Through these roles, Syed developed significant experience analysing complex legal issues, reviewing substantial volumes of evidence and material, working closely with experienced counsel, and making carefully considered strategic decisions. He has a strong ability to identify risks at an early stage and translate complex information into clear, focused legal strategies. These skills underpin the structured, detail-oriented approach he brings to every matter handled by the firm.

Earlier in his career, Syed also worked as a criminal defence solicitor with the Aboriginal Legal Service in metropolitan and regional New South Wales, including Bourke. Appearing regularly in a demanding regional court environment gave him valuable experience representing clients from a wide range of cultural, social and personal backgrounds.

As Principal Solicitor, Syed works directly with his clients and remains personally involved throughout their matter. Whether assisting with a criminal charge, property transaction, dispute, immigration issue or estate planning matter, his focus is on careful preparation, honest advice and practical solutions.

Syed speaks Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi, allowing him to communicate directly with clients from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Interpreters can also be arranged where required to ensure every client clearly understands their legal options and the progress of their matter.
